About

Calvin and Fanny have been dancing and teaching salsa together since 2008. They frequently attend salsa congresses and festivals where they participate in workshops and share the dance floor with some of the biggest names in the world of salsa. They have worked with five-time World Salsa Champion Oliver Pineda of Australia, Salsa On2 pioneer Eddie Torres of New York, Griselle Ponce of New Jersey, The Cobo Brothers of North Carolina and many more.

FANNY OLAYA was born and raised in Lima, Peru where she grew up listening and dancing to the sounds of salsa, merengue, cumbia, cha cha cha and other latin styles. These sounds were a part of Fanny’s everyday life from a very early age and have created in her an undying passion for music and dance.

CALVIN RICE was born in Buffalo, NY and holds a Bachelors degree in music performance and education from Ithaca College. He is an active musician, dancer and teacher who loves to share his knowledge and talent with others.

Classes with Baila Salsa are a mix of footwork (shines) and partnerwork (turn patterns), with emphasis on the techniques of leading and following for the social dancer. Students will also begin to gain an understanding of musicality and latin body motion. No partner necessary.
